News Alert: New Telephone Scam Targets USCIS Applicants and Petitioners

According to a news alert issued today by USCIS, the service has recently learned of a telephone scam targeting USCIS applicants and petitioners.  The scammers reportedly pose as USCIS officials and request personal information (such as Social Security numbers, passport numbers, A-numbers, etc.) over the phone, before identifying alleged issues in the recipient’s immigration record and asking for payment to correct those issues.

USCIS has urged any recipients of such phone calls to deny the caller’s request and hang up immediately, as USCIS never asks for any form of payment or personal information over the phone.

Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of this scam should report it to the Federal Trade Commission at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/.
