CBP Announces Automation of Form I-94 Arrival/Departure Record
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced on March 21, 2013 that it has submitted a rule to the Federal Register to automate Form I-94 Arrival/Departure Record, which provides international visitors with evidence they have lawfully entered the U.S. The automation of Form I-94 will decrease paperwork, optimize resources, facilitate security and travel, and save the CBP an estimated $15.5 million annually by using traveler information transmitted electronically. Travelers wanting a hard copy will be directed online where they can print a copy of an I-94 based on electronically submitted data. These changes will go into effect on April 30th, 30 days after the rule is published in the Federal Register.
