California’s New Driver’s License Law and the National Trend of Immigrant-Friendly Measures
A new law, signed by California Governor Jerry Brown, will allow more immigrants living in California to apply for driver’s licenses, starting January 2015. Officials expect 1.4 million people to apply for licenses in California over the coming three years.
This news comes amidst a number of other immigrant friendly measures that have passed over the last year. The national trend is “a striking change from just three years ago,” according to the New York Times.
