Client Alert: Travel Delays and Government Closures Anticipated due to Lunar New Year
Since the Lunar New Year falls on January 28, 2017, we anticipate travel-related delays and government/business interruptions throughout Asia during the period of January 26, 2017 through February 2, 2017, particularly in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia, and the People’s Republic of China, amongst other countries.
Travelers should expect travel delays and interruptions due to government/business closures. This means that travelers to these areas during the holiday should exercise caution and book travel well in advance.
Visa applicants should contact their local U.S. Embassy to determine specific holiday closure dates, if any. This information is commonly published and available to the public on Embassy websites. It is highly recommended that visa applicants seeking to secure visa stamps should check with their local Embassy for any such delays and submit visa applications to secure interview appointments as soon as possible.
Note: Any visa applications or interviews occurring close to the holiday/closure dates may not be acted upon until government offices reopen and normal businesses resume operation.
