Trump Administration Rescinds DACA, Calls On Congress to Pass Legislation Before the Program Expires on March 5, 2018

On Tuesday, September 5, 2017, President Trump ordered an end to DACA, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, an executive action enacted by President Obama in 2012, which shields young undocumented immigrants from deportation. In the rescission, the Trump Administration shifts responsibility of the immigration program to Congress calling on them to replace the policy with legislation before it fully expires on March 5, 2018. As of today, the government will no longer accept new applications from undocumented immigrants under DACA.  Officials said that approximately 800,000 current beneficiaries will not immediately be affected by what they called an orderly wind down.
